Our Standard

At Frogmouth Ponds, ‘pure’
is a scientific standard

Most supermarket honey is ultra-filtered and pasteurised, which kills the delicate live enzymes and floral aromas that make Tasmanian honey famous. Ours never is.

01 · Cold-Extracted

Never heated above 22°C

The honey goes straight from comb to jar. No heat means the natural enzymes and floral compounds reach you fully intact.

02 · 100% Raw

Live enzymes & pollen, kept

Unpasteurised and minimally filtered, so the live probiotics and natural pollen stay exactly as the bees made them.

03 · Wild-Harvested

Tasmania's pristine flora

Sourced from Port Sorell's coastal bushland and Tasmania's World Heritage wilderness — floral sources found nowhere else.

The Superfood Guide

Why Tasmanian honey
is a true superfood

Recent research identified a world-first compound — 4-Methoxymandelic acid (4-MMA) — unique to Tasmania's leatherwood nectar. It's why our honey does more than sweeten.

Antioxidant power
A potent antioxidant that helps fight free radicals and supports the immune system far beyond standard table honey.
A chemical fingerprint
Because 4-MMA occurs only in Tasmanian leatherwood, it guarantees authenticity — this honey cannot be faked.
Anti-inflammatory
Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, used traditionally for wound care and digestive health.
Honey Care & Questions

Good to know

Why has my honey become solid or white?
Crystallisation is completely natural and actually proves your honey is 100% raw — it's the ultimate purity test. Our cold-extracted harvest keeps its natural pollens and enzymes, which bond together over time. To return it to liquid, stand the sealed jar in a bowl of warm water (never boiling) and stir gently.
What is leatherwood honey and why is it special?
Leatherwood comes from the Eucryphia lucida tree, which grows only in Tasmania's World Heritage-listed rainforest. It contains 4-MMA — a bioactive compound found nowhere else on Earth — giving it a complex floral flavour and unique health properties.
Is your honey cold-extracted and unprocessed?
Yes. Cold extraction means the honey goes straight from the comb to the jar, no heat above 22°C, no blending, no shortcuts. This keeps the live enzymes, natural pollen and delicate floral compounds fully intact.
Does raw Tasmanian honey ever expire?
No. Because of its low moisture content and natural acidity, pure honey is the only food that truly lasts forever. Colour and texture may change over time, but its flavour and properties remain intact, sealed and out of direct sunlight.
Where does Frogmouth Ponds honey come from?
All our honey comes from our own apiaries spread across Tasmania, from our Port Sorell home base to Acacia Hills and beyond. Our hives forage pristine Tasmanian bushland, leatherwood rainforest, blue gum forest and coastal wildflowers.
