About this product

Harry Bastard Beard Balm is a tobacco-scented beeswax balm handcrafted in Tasmania for blokes who actually have a beard to look after. Built on the same pure Tasmanian beeswax as our Lip Armour but poured softer, so it works through coarse hair instead of sitting on top of it. Shea butter, olive and coconut oils condition and soften the beard and the skin underneath, while jojoba oil leaves it manageable rather than greasy. Finished with a warm tobacco essence – leather, dried leaf and a touch of sweetness. No parabens. No petroleum. No synthetic fragrance oils.

The Scent Warm, dry tobacco leaf – the smell of a rolled pouch and an old leather jacket, not a cigarette. It is the only scented product we make, and it was worth making an exception for. Subtle enough to wear all day, distinct enough that people ask about it.

Poured Softer On Purpose A beard balm has a different job to a lip balm. Lip Armour is deliberately hard – it forms a barrier and stays put. This is the opposite: a lower beeswax concentration so it warms in your palms and works all the way down to the skin, where the dry itch actually lives. Same beeswax, different build.

Tasmanian Beeswax From Our Own Hives The wax comes off our own frames at Port Sorell, not a drum bought in from somewhere else. That is the whole reason these balms behave the way they do – we know exactly what is in them because we made the base ingredient ourselves.

Nine Ingredients, All Natural Beeswax, shea butter, olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, rice bran oil, vitamin E and tobacco essence. That is the entire list. Nothing to pad it out.

Questions

Good to know

Warm and dry – tobacco leaf and leather with a faint sweetness, closer to a pipe pouch than to smoke. There is nothing burnt about it. It sits close to the skin and fades over a few hours rather than announcing itself across a room.

Same Tasmanian beeswax base, deliberately different build. Lip Armour is poured hard with a high beeswax concentration so it forms a matte barrier and stays put in wind and sun. The Beard Balm is poured softer with jojoba oil and tobacco essence added, so it warms in your hands and works down through the hair to the skin. It is also the only scented product in the range.

Scoop a small amount with a thumbnail, warm it between your palms until it turns to oil, then work it through the beard from the skin outwards. Start with less than you think – it goes a long way, and too much will leave the beard looking heavy.

Not if you use a small amount. Jojoba and rice bran oil absorb quickly, and there is no petroleum in the formula to sit on the surface. The finish is soft and natural rather than shiny.
